With Program Sentry you can create two types of lists: a list of prohibited applications and a list of allowed applications. If the user attempts to launch an application from the prohibited list, Program Sentry will prevent it from running. If the user attempts to launch an application from the allowed list, Program Sentry will let it run as usual.

Once you’re done with the list of applications, you can use Program Sentry in two modes:
- Block Mode: it will close down any application on the blocked list.
- Allow Mode: it will close down any application that is not on the allowed list.

For both modes, passwords can be assigned to programs in the list. If the program is in the blocked list, the password will unblock the application, meaning that Program Sentry will not prevent it from running.
